Question 1 Essays (1074 words) - Human Behavior, Denialism
Question 1 Is evolution a proven fact or theory? Explain your answer. What ideas compete with evolution to explain population changes? What are some differences between these ideas? Many scientists and philosophers of science have described evolution as fact and theory , a phrase which was used as the title of an article by Stephen Jay Gould in 1981. He describes fact in science as meaning data , not absolute certainty but "confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent." A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of such facts. The facts of evolution come from observational evidence of current processes, from imperfections in organisms recording historical common descent , and from transitions in the fossil record. Theories of evolution provide a provisional explanation for these facts. There are multiple ideas which offer alternative theories regarding population changes. While scientists support the idea of evolution, they do not accept that natural selection is the primary mechanism involved. Evolution continues to be viewed and accepted as the main ideology behind population changes. As for theories which offer alternatives to evolution itself, most of the alternative ideas exist within Christian ideologies. For some, Creationism exists as an alternative to evolution. Other alternatives (which derived from the original idea of Creationism) are Creation Science, neocreationism , and Intelligent Design. Question 2 The text suggests that virtually all biologists consider evolution to be a fact. In your opinion, is It really a fact?Is there an evolution debate? In my opinion, I do think evolution is a fact and a theory. Why? Because in some case biologists have proof of the research they have conducted to become a fact. And then there is the theory part because of the non-sufficient studies and proof. I feel that with science being so advance pretty soon biologists are going to be able to proof or disproof this theory of fact with evolution. Question 3 The technology is allowing us to learn about things to other species maybe we never know. The nature does not kill of those with diseases due to technology, allows for their survival, in which the technology to treat some diseases. Many people are alive today that might have die long ago, had they lived hundreds of years ago. All illnesses developed today come from exposure to what we normally should do not have met to begin with, and which won't prevail genetically throughout offspring. For those days, technology is more likely healing diseases and continuum with each case surfacing eventually our bodies developed immunities. For instance, the natural selection has two measures of success, the ability to survive and passing genes to the next generation. In addition, the natural selection the evolution of population occurred when the environment selects the individuals with traits and allowing them to adapt to a given environment. Information retrieves from Question 4 You are conducting fieldwork and discover two groups of squirrels living o n opposite sides of a lake. How would you design a study to determine, without disturbing the squirrels, whether these two groups belong to the same species? Explain. Squirrels, like most mammals, form various units. A common unit for squirrels is the family. If you wanted to determine these two were separate families you would have to first fine the nest/den tree, then enumerate each and all individuals per family. Then you would have to monitor interaction between the two families. The points of conflict would be the boundary lines between the two families. Question 5 Human culture is changing faster than humans can evolve. What evidence of rapid environmental change do you see locally, nationally, and globally? Explain. Culture has change dramatically the reason I believe is becuase is many of us in this planet and the planet can not take to many of us at the same time. We are a species that can be in the decrease on how long we can live, factors that had make culture dramatically change is a faster speed is: Economic Crisis- nationally is not a financial melt down but is bad management , right now human culture has change d its technology that is growing t oo fast and our economy
